The title of this post says it all. I feel like I’m introducing a second child into the world. We’ll call this my other baby. As I sit here, I wonder what I should write about and who I should write this for but I’m not going to let that hold me back today because a smart lady said, “Do it afraid.” So, I’m just going to plow ahead and not let fear keep me frozen.
Fear is an interesting animal. It either makes us jump to action or freeze in fear. Scientifically, it’s called the Fight or Flight Response and we typically think of it when we think about predator and prey – Eagle vs. Rabbit, Snake vs. Mouse, Cheetah vs. Gazelle – but similar responses happen in the human world, too.
For those of you who don’t know me very well (or at all), I am really passionate about things financial – creating goals and spending plans, organizing your records, credit reports, credit scores, predatory lending, scams, taxes, estate planning, emergency preparedness and on and on…I’m also passionate about teaching people and helping them get where they want to go – either by providing the knowledge, the skills, or the motivation. But, I seem to have gotten off track a little…let me go back…
Predator and prey, (some) financial service companies and consumers…I see lots of similarities.
- The predator will take advantage of the prey’s weaknesses.
- The financial service company will take advantage of the consumer’s weaknesses (usually lack of knowledge).
- The predator will chase it’s prey until it is too tired to run anymore.
- The financial service company will pursue the consumer until they give up or pay up.
- The prey will freeze when the predator is near.
- The consumer will freeze when the financial service company shows some muscle.
Hmmm…I’m not sure where I was going with that. It is 2am and I’m sitting here writing this when I should probably be asleep, so cut me a little slack in the comments section, please.
I promise that future blogs will make more sense.
My blog nugget: What fears are keeping you frozen? What can you do to unfreeze yourself?
Peace and Prosperity!

I think writing about fear is a appropriate place to start when it comes to money. Haven’t we all been afraid of something when it comes to our finances? I know I have. I look forward to lots more blogging from you Ms. Judy. You rock.
Thanks Kristal! I’m glad my rambling made sense to you! And, you rock – for passing on Deirdre’s quote to me! Please tell her I said THANK YOU for telling it to you. I’m doing lots of things afraid this week and it’s awesome!
Love that you created this and are writing at 2am – awesome. Can’t wait to read more and learn more about you and what you do.
Jen
Thanks, Jen! Stay tuned!
Hey, Julie! Nice to read your blog.
Funny thing – I was thinking about this very same topic earlier today, before I read your post. I even considered writing about it on my blog. I think I need to do some more soul-searching before I do that, though.
Take care! – Elizabeth (Steele)
Hey Elizabeth – thanks for reading! Let me know when you right that post. I would like to read where your soul-searching takes you. ~ Peace and Prosperity, Julie
Well, I did it. Go check it out and let me know what you think!
I believe faith conquers all fear, when placed in adverse situations one’s power is but so limited. Overcome any challenge in life requires a relationship far beyond human understanding, therefore a higher power is needed to rise above difficult problems!!!
